As the buildout of HAX’s new 35,000 square foot facility in Newark, NJ nears its official opening this spring, the HAX team is hitting the road to get the word out and meet prospective founders for the HAX startup development program. Boston is top of the list, on April 24 & 25, for two events: a HAX Deep Tech meetup on the evening of April 24 and as session at TechCrunch’s Early Stage event on April 25.

Duncan Turner, HAX’s managing director and SOSV general partner, and Dr. Susan Schofer, HAX’s chief science officer and an SOSV partner, will be at both events, along with Dr. Sabriya Stukes, who is the chief science officer at HAX’s sister program, IndieBio in NYC, and also an SOSV partner. They are eager to meet grad students and post docs who might be interested turning their “hard tech” academic research into a startup.

SOSV writes pre-seed checks between $250,000 and $500,000 to startups accepted into the HAX program, where for 4 to 6 months the founders work closely with the HAX engineers and scientists to prove and scale their technology in preparation for raising a series seed venture round. Currently 25 companies are working in the HAX program in Newark; most are focused on sustainability across climate, industrial automation and human health.

At the HAX meetup on April 24 (6:00-8:30 p.m), the team hopes to meet potential future HAX founders as well as investors, technologists, academics and anyone interested in the SOSV / HAX mission to advance human and planetary health. Register here. It’s free and we will have a light program plus drinks and snacks. Thanks to The Engine in Cambridge for use of their space.

For the TechCrunch Early Stage event on April 25, attendees have to puchase a ticket, but TechCrunch has kindly provided friends of HAX with a 50% off ticket promo code PartnerXHAX50. The HAX team is on stage at 2:05 p.m. The rest of the agenda is pretty great too, especially if you’re an early stage founder or considering becoming one.

We hope to see you in Boston.
